Our event this year celebrates the diversity of the people, culture, and cuisine of the Mediterranean basin. Structured largely on olive oil, fresh produce (especially tomatoes), spices, seafood, and reared meats, the culinary stylings of this region are often referred to as "sun cuisine". Borrowing from that imagery, our team's passionate work will make guests feel as though they are truly dining "beneath the Mediterranean sun".
The Mediterranean basin has monumental importance to human anthropology. Contained in its eastern shores is what many consider to be the cradle of modern civilization. Our title this year also reflects the beliefs of many of those ancient civilizations who placed great importance on the sun, recognizing its necessity to all life on Earth. The ancient Egyptians valued the sun so highly that its associated god, Ra, was one of their most highly revered. Ra was, in fact, the center of the only monotheistic period in ancient Egypt.
The Mediterranean is home to a great number of diverse cultures and peoples. With our event this year, we hope to untangle those diversities and search out the commonalities that bind the region together. We hope that you will join us on March 27, 2010, as we explore this unique region, country by country, bite by bite.
